Elope!?!

Seriously, the planning Christy and our parents have done has been the most emotionally draining part of this process... it has made me question why we didn't just elope! That being said, the experience has made us a better team and created a glimpse of reality of what is ahead of us when we start a REAL life! It is amazing how hard it is to have someone else to worry about and have her worry about me. Since moving to Logan, Chisty and I have really gotten to hang out more frequently. It has been nice, but it has surely been an adjustment as well.

With a little over 36 hours before we get married we still have a lot to do. Thank goodness for our families help the last ten days... without them I do not believe the details would be so finely taken care of.

Our parents have genuinely been there from the start and we are both so fortunate to have our own and each others parents around to be part of this wonderful occasion. Part of me views this as a celebration for them as well. Being that Christy and I are both the last children to get married in our families, it is a testament to the amazing parents that they are!

I am so grateful for both the family that has had to endure me since 1977 and the family that has hazed me in to their loving and jovial family! My parents are amazing and Christy's parents are as well.

So much to be thankful for right now...

... thank you to Christy , the Moes and my Family for supporting us and or decisions to merge our family trees together.

Why didnt we elope? We wanted to celebrate with everyone that has helped us shape us in to US! We hope to see you Saturday!!!!!!!!!

[Bridal] Showered in looove

Bridal shower was a much needed night to celebrate! I've been getting overwhelmed by the logistics and have been to busy to enjoy this engagement thing so it was nice to relax and get encouragement and advice from my friends. I got a little emotional driving to my bridal shower on Saturday (95% sure that isnt the new birth control- but legit sentiment) thinking of how blessed I am to have such amazing girl friends from all phases of my life. At my shower I had family who has known me always, friends that I knew in middle school, high-school friends, college roommates, my mission trainer and co-workers. Admittedly, I was missing my Missouri mother and my 210 girls, but was still overwhelmed by a night showered with love by my favorite local gals.

Missy and Nat did a great job with the hosting and my highschoolers brought Cafe Rio style deliciousness.

Before we opened gifts, Missy asked everyone to introduce themselves and share a piece of advice for me. A lot of people recommended "The 5 Love Languages" and "Between Husband and Wife" (which i just bought but have no idea when i'll read it- is the honeymoon plane ride too late?). Other advice was, it is okay to go to be angry sometimes, it is okay to voice what is really bothering you, date with eyes wide open and after you are married learn to close your lids to imperfections, seek to your spouse as God sees them, keep in touch with your girlfriends, have girls night, set things down when your husband gets home and greet him, make sure God is a the center, don't talk to your friends/family about fights/disagreements because they dont forget, guys and girls bond differently so make sure you are both fulfilled and sacrifice for each other, and of course, have lots of sex (in the dark, in the light and even if you dont really want to). I'm sure I forgot some. . .
After advice, Missy had everyone write their first/favorite memory with me and I had to guess who wrote it. I didnt know "The Beast" (white/rust '78 full size Bronco) i drove in high school was so memorable! A few other goodies were: calling your house and hearing 'this is Bob, how can i help you'!, a night of confusion regarding glow-in-the-dark croquet and crochet, me saying strange things with my head out the window, going backstage for Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182 and Green Day and taking tons of pics only to find out our camera was broken, cutting/coloring my hair since i was 12 years old, embarrassing moments at Draper Days fireworks. . . and so many more. I wish i could've shared a moment for everyone too. LOVE YOU GIRLS!!

Congrats, you made the cut.

If you are here, you probably got your announcement. (Announcements were sent/hand delivered in a few waves so most of you should have gotten them by now or will get them soon.)

We put this lovely blog on your announcement so that you could easily find registry and reception information and so that you could share the engagement experience with us. We plan on keeping up this blog for our family use so please feel free to bookmark away.

One person we know got theirs is Leo the Lion- we know this because our pic is posted on the RSL facebook page.  Pretty cool. You can see his post here. This might be as famous as I'll ever get, so I'm embracing the moment. (Plus, my self-esteem likes it when random people think i'm a catch.)

a non-traditional sort of cake

So while wedding planning I started nixing some trite traditions associated with wedding stuff and this was working really well for me until my romantic and sentimental fiance expressed some reservations. One tradition on the chopping block was "cutting the wedding cake." (Sure, sure you are thinking that I just was avoiding the inevitable cake/face smash, but truly i wasn't.) So we came up with this alternative. .. a cake pinata that we can smash together instead of cutting together. I have never actually made a pinata, so with some help of youtube and my amazing highschool friends, we fashioned a pinata for the big day. Here is a photo of the pinata party:

Later that night, after a lot of tissue paper reworking and some structural adjustments from Tom and Jeff, we ended up with this beauty:
Want to know what is in the pinata? Well, you will have to come to the reception and see what happens.

Sacrifice defines a best friend

It is amazing to me how much Christy does. She has made countless sacrifices, from moving to Logan, to enduring long days in the sun watching soccer, to just learning how to deal with me. Her patience and understanding makes my life easier. Every time I drag her to soccer games (that honestly, she enjoys, but sometimes enough is enough) or whatever, she is patient and calm. I am very grateful for her friendship and admire her ambitions. I have never had such a good friend, someone that I can completely rely on to be there for me or tell me I am an idiot when I am being just that.

Over the last 16 months we have created some great memories. There are many more to come. To the left is a  picture of Christy at Brianhead Ski Resort. And below is a picture of me the same day.  We went there for a few days this past Winter with Christy's family. I was VERY sick, but Christy took care of me enough to go snowboarding for the first time in 13 years! This was one of my favorite adventures with her!

We laugh with each other and at each other a lot... next week, won't be any different when we head off to Missouri to enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks and Christy's family (they are brilliantly hilarious)!

Wake boarding time!

Picture Day

We had a blast hamming it up for the camera for our engagement photos! Lindsey, our photographer, made it really easy and fun. Preparing for photo day was a little stressful, after scouring the mall a few times, I ended up wearing one of my favorite old t-shirts and jeans. Lindsey got a chuckle and a surprise when Jeff showed up with 1/2 of his closet and asked her to pick what he should wear. Here is a link to our "sneak preview" on Lindsey's blog- we can't wait to see the rest of the film!

The Engagement: Un-Independence Day

July 4, 2012 Jeff made it official!! I told him that I would say "no" if he proposed to me at a soccer game so I was slightly unprepared for a proposal just after the RSL game during the fireworks. I was a little nervous that it would happen at half-time because he had been down on the field pre-game for a long time so I was worried I would have to say "no" to him in front of thousands on the jumbo-tron at halftime. Luckily for him, and me, once the fireworks started after the game he pulled me into the owner's suite and asked me to marry him with fireworks in the background and a sparkly ring in his hand. Obviously, I said "yes!"*  Thanks to Bobby (Jeff's brother) for capturing the moment on film. Here are some pictures:

*actually, the first thing I said was, "oh cool, that little box has a light" and then "YES!!!"
