a non-traditional sort of cake

So while wedding planning I started nixing some trite traditions associated with wedding stuff and this was working really well for me until my romantic and sentimental fiance expressed some reservations. One tradition on the chopping block was "cutting the wedding cake." (Sure, sure you are thinking that I just was avoiding the inevitable cake/face smash, but truly i wasn't.) So we came up with this alternative. .. a cake pinata that we can smash together instead of cutting together. I have never actually made a pinata, so with some help of youtube and my amazing highschool friends, we fashioned a pinata for the big day. Here is a photo of the pinata party:

Later that night, after a lot of tissue paper reworking and some structural adjustments from Tom and Jeff, we ended up with this beauty:
Want to know what is in the pinata? Well, you will have to come to the reception and see what happens.

Sacrifice defines a best friend

It is amazing to me how much Christy does. She has made countless sacrifices, from moving to Logan, to enduring long days in the sun watching soccer, to just learning how to deal with me. Her patience and understanding makes my life easier. Every time I drag her to soccer games (that honestly, she enjoys, but sometimes enough is enough) or whatever, she is patient and calm. I am very grateful for her friendship and admire her ambitions. I have never had such a good friend, someone that I can completely rely on to be there for me or tell me I am an idiot when I am being just that.

Over the last 16 months we have created some great memories. There are many more to come. To the left is a  picture of Christy at Brianhead Ski Resort. And below is a picture of me the same day.  We went there for a few days this past Winter with Christy's family. I was VERY sick, but Christy took care of me enough to go snowboarding for the first time in 13 years! This was one of my favorite adventures with her!

We laugh with each other and at each other a lot... next week, won't be any different when we head off to Missouri to enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks and Christy's family (they are brilliantly hilarious)!

Wake boarding time!

Picture Day

We had a blast hamming it up for the camera for our engagement photos! Lindsey, our photographer, made it really easy and fun. Preparing for photo day was a little stressful, after scouring the mall a few times, I ended up wearing one of my favorite old t-shirts and jeans. Lindsey got a chuckle and a surprise when Jeff showed up with 1/2 of his closet and asked her to pick what he should wear. Here is a link to our "sneak preview" on Lindsey's blog- we can't wait to see the rest of the film!

The Engagement: Un-Independence Day

July 4, 2012 Jeff made it official!! I told him that I would say "no" if he proposed to me at a soccer game so I was slightly unprepared for a proposal just after the RSL game during the fireworks. I was a little nervous that it would happen at half-time because he had been down on the field pre-game for a long time so I was worried I would have to say "no" to him in front of thousands on the jumbo-tron at halftime. Luckily for him, and me, once the fireworks started after the game he pulled me into the owner's suite and asked me to marry him with fireworks in the background and a sparkly ring in his hand. Obviously, I said "yes!"*  Thanks to Bobby (Jeff's brother) for capturing the moment on film. Here are some pictures:

*actually, the first thing I said was, "oh cool, that little box has a light" and then "YES!!!"
